Project Winter Wiki

Ghosts are dead players in all Game Modes. They can communicate to other ghosts through voice or text and are not limited by proximity. Ghosts have some influence on players that are alive. Aside from some specific roles in Blackout and Custom Blackout, ghosts cannot be seen by alive players. They cannot be heard at all by any alive players.

Abilities[]

  • Ghosts have access to 4 abilities (potentially 5 in Custom or Custom Blackout). Every 5 seconds, a ghost gets 3 ghost points that can be used for ghost abilities. Ghost abilities have an area-of-effect (AoE).
  • Ghost Warmth gives a small amount of warmth to local players and costs 25 ghost points.
  • Ghost Hunger gives a small amount of hunger to local players and costs 25 ghost points.
  • Ghost Health gives a small amount of health to local players and costs 45 ghost points.
  • Ghost Freeze removes a small amount of warmth to local players and costs 45 ghost points.
  • Ghosts can see traps that have been placed.
  • Ghosts can pick up one item at a time and drop said item. It takes a much longer amount of time for a ghost to pick up an item and if any alive player faces, the alive player has priority and cancels the attempt by the ghost.
  • If a ghost picks up Poison, they can poison interactable objects. If a traitor ghost places a poison on an interactable object, alive traitors will see it.
  • Ghosts have access to listening on Yellow Radio and Blue Radio. Traitor ghosts have additional access to Red Radio.
  • Ghosts can influence the probability of the selected options for the next Global Event.
  • In Blackout and Custom Blackout, ghosts can be seen (but not heard) by the Medium and Necromancer roles.
  • Ghosts can see the amount of survivor points and winter artifacts gained so far during a given match.
  • Ghosts can get ghost bonus objectives, which are distinctly different than bonus objectives alive players can get. There is no cooldown in obtaining a new bonus objective after completing their current one. Ghosts cannot reroll their current ghost bonus objective.

Tactics[]

  • A common tactic that ghosts often employ is to use a ghost ability on 2 players, signaling to at least one of them information about the other player. For example, if a survivor freezes 2 players where one is traitor and the other is non-traitor, it may be to indicate to the non-traitor that the other alive player is a traitor.
  • Ghosts may want to use one of their ghost abilities on players or drop/pick an item nearby other players just to indicate that there is a ghost and that someone has died.
  • Traitors with access to red radio can more easily communicate to a traitor ghost to pick up poison to be used against the Survivor (Faction).
  • Ghosts that find a stash of items may decide to pick up said items to relocate them to make the task more difficult for that player.
  • At most, one ghost can be revived at the Truth Serum Lab using the Lazarus Machine. The revived player still has all the information they saw when they were a ghost, but in general, can no longer see all of the traps placed by alive players. Additionally, the now revived player cannot speak nor use emotes to communicate to other players.
  • The Medium and Necromancer roles are able to see nearby Ghosts and what they are doing (including what they are holding and what ghost ability is currently selected). The Medium and Necromancers can communicate with the ghosts through voice and text, but the opposite is not true. However, by asking the ghosts to perform different actions, information can still be communicated. For example, a Medium or a Necromancer might ask a ghost a yes-or-no question, with common telegraphed responses being "spin in a circle" for yes and "move side to side" for no. One other way ghosts may communicate quickly that they want either the Medium or Necromancer to attack a specific player is to continuously spin directly ontop of their targeted player.
